A group of volunteers litter-picked along a busy main road as part of a campaign to clean up their town.
Watford’s Rubbish Friends launched its initiative in St Albans Road as it seeks to improve the state of littering in the area.
Devised by the Watford Conservatives, the scheme involves members of the public notifying the group of areas blighted by rubbish, which it then resolves.
George Jabbour, Conservative candidate for Watford Mayor, said: “I am delighted with the response we received.
“Residents who saw us cleaning the roads were very supportive and appreciative.
“Someone even invited us in to offer tea and pastry – it was a timely break after a session of litter-picking out in a cold morning.”
Darren Harrison, the Conservative Watford Borough Council candidate for the Tudor ward, explained how they chose to launch the programme in St Albans Road since there is often a lot of litter left there overnight during the weekend.
Anyone who would like to get involved with Watford’s Rubbish Friends or wishes to alert the group to an area with a high concentration of litter can email office@watfordconservatives.org.uk.
