A school in Watford was the first in the UK to receive a National Nurturing Award.
Laurence Haines Primary School, in Vicarage Road, was awarded the accolade for its “nurturing culture” and focus on “emotional needs and development”.
The award is given to schools that complete a two-year course ran by the Nurture Group Network, a non-profit organisation that delivers training and holds “nurture groups” with students across the country.
Watford MP Richard Harrington and the chief executive of the network, Kevin Kibble, presented the award to head teacher James Roach.
Mr Roach said: “We are thrilled to be the first school in the UK to receive the National Nurturing School Award.
“Our ethos centres around well-being for our whole school community. Our aim is that during their time at Laurance Haines, our children fulfil their academic and social potential."
Mr Harrington said: "This is a fantastic achievement and a real credit to the staff and students there.
“I have seen this programme in action and was so impressed to hear first-hand the difference it can make to a child's life.
“Laurence Haines is leading the way here."
