An outdated paddling pool will be refurbished following approved plans.
Hertsmere Borough Council has approved building a new splash park in King George Recreation Ground in Bushey, which will replace the out-dated paddling pool.
The new splash park's 'tropical island' design, will include designated areas suitable for families, toddlers and pre-teens. Work is due to start onsite from February 6 and aims to be open by the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Councillor Seamus Quilty said: “This new facility will be an exciting new addition to the park and will cater for families with young children.
“The existing paddling pool is outdated and no longer fit for purpose. Over the past few years it has had to close due to ad-hoc maintenance issues or poor water quality, which is expensive to repair and disappointing for the children who want to have fun on hot summer days."
The new splash park can cater for more people at a time, nearly three times the capacity of the paddling pool.
The original paddling pool was built in 1999 and in recent years the facility has closed due to poor water quality and other issues.
The new splash park will cost approximately £250,000 and will be fully funded by section 106 money, which is money given to the council through the planning process for local development.
