Little Red Riding Hood, Harry Potter and Batman were just some of the fictional characters on hand to help celebrate the opening of Highwood Primary School's first library last week.
Students at the school, in Bushey Mill Lane, were joined by children's author, Andrea Shavick to mark the opening of the library and celebrated the occasion by dressing up as their favourite fictional character.
After being shown around the new facility, tBob the Builder, Action Man and Little Red Riding Hood, together with the other 450 pupils in fancy dress, were then treated to a talk by local author and poet, Andrea, on how to write stories and poetry themselves. Headteacher of Highwood, Poula Budge, said the school had previously kept most of its books in a corridor, but pupils could now benefit from facilities in the fully refurbished, modern library.
Mrs Budge said: "We never actually had many books so we've bought new ones, and the fact that they can now come in and use a proper library and have library sessions is great.
"And some of these children have probably never been to a library so it is a new experience for them."
