A village youth centre was given a revamp by young volunteers last weekend.
West Hyde and Maple Cross Youth Centre, Old Uxbridge Road, was given a make-over by teenagers from the Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions and Wickes’ volunteer scheme last weekend.
The volunteers renovated the sports section of the youth club under the guidance of qualified mentors and youth workers who taught them decorating skills.
By the end of the weekend, the hall was completely transformed.
Imran, from Wickes’ volunteer scheme, Volunteer-It-Yourself said: “This has been a great project – the staff and students have all worked really hard and completed their project to a brilliant standard.
“I have really enjoyed teaching and mentoring the students and even some staff to learn a new skill which I hope they will utilise in the near future.”
All the materials required including paints, brushes, rollers and dustsheets were provided by Wickes.
The young volunteers gained an Entry Level 3 Employability Skills qualification for their hard work.
One young person, Lisa, added: “This project has taught me lots about myself, empowered me with life skills and I’ve had the chance to meet other amazing people”.
