A path through Whippendell Woods, a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), has been re-opened after being rebuilt and resurfaced by Watford Borough Council.

With the aim of providing year round access to the woods and Cassiobury Park for pedestrians and cyclists 535 metres of path has been resurfaced using natural and locally sourced materials.

Running from the Grove Mill Lane car park to the top of West Herts Golf Course, the path will also provide a valuable addition to the cycle route network between Grove Mill Lane and Rousebarn Lane.

The Grove Mill Lane car park is also getting a face lift, with the area being resurfaced and reconstructed using crushed concrete supplied free of charge from the council's Central Baths site.

The council has plans to restore further sections of Lime Avenue and investigations are underway to secure funding. C urrently a further 60 metres of path from Iron Bridge Lock up Lime Avenue is being worked on, and should be completed by the end of this week.
