Mothers and Daughters of Cancer Research UK is set to raise £1 million for the charity next week at its annual Ladies Luncheon.

The luncheon, which this year is at luxury hotel, The Grove, Chandlers Cross, takes place on Tuesday, May 8, when the committee will be welcoming over 350 ladies from the area and celebrity friends, actresses Rita Tushingham and Aisha Bicknell, and X Factor favourite Brenda Edwards.

Alison Browning of Cancer Research UK said: "This is an amazing achievement from this group of driven, hard working ladies.

"Their fundraising efforts have helped us in our quest to beat cancer and will help more people survive the disease."

Each year, the committee chose a Cancer Research UK project close to their hearts and for 2007 are supporting Professor Richard Begent and his team at the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London NW3.

They are working on new ways to treat cancer using cutting-edge antibody technology to target therapy specifically to cancer cells.

The aim is to provide an alternative treatment to chemotherapy, which can be more painful and devastating than the cancer itself.
