A restoration project of the traditional finger-post sign at a Watford junction has been completed by Hertfordshire Highways.
The restored sign is at the junction between Horseshoe Lane, Woodside Road and College Road.
Finger-post signs have been part of the local countryside for centuries and have become as iconic as the red telephone box.
There is widespread community support for their restoration and Hertfordshire Highways has paid great attention to detail, even sourcing timber which matches the original Douglas Fir, used more than 50 years ago.
"This is a particularly picturesque area of Watford and has many visitors due to attractions such as the Woodside Estate and Local Nature Reserve," said County Councillor Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways, Transport and Rural Affairs.
"We are very pleased to have been able to restore this historic landmark to its former glory, and because such care has been taken over its restoration we hope it will serve its purpose for another 50 years."
