The mercury may have risen above 21 degrees, but that didn't stop hundreds of runners from south west Hertfordshire completing yesterday's London Marathon.
Watford Observer reporter Martin Booth was one of the 36,000 runners who took part in the event.
Martin finished in four hours 25 minutes, and raised funds for Guide Dogs.
He said: "I was quite pleased with my time, given the heat. But I don't think I will be able to walk down stairs for a few days."
The event raised millions for charity, however, it was also tinged with sadness as one 22-year-old runner died and another competitor was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The tough conditions, which included temperatures of more than 21 degrees, resulted in more than 5,000 runners requiring assistance from St John Ambulance volunteers.
