Just when you think you’ve seen it all in Watford on a Saturday, along come a full-scale alien invasion, minstrels and killer worms.
South Oxhey writer and comedian Al Ronald – the man behind the Salmon on the Mount alternative comedy nights at The LP Café – has put together two live radio shows with his comedy partner Cy Henty as part of Watford Live!, and will be performing them live by the pond on The Parade and in New Watford Market.
Invasion Night tells the story of a radio show being performed for Watford Live! which is interrupted by an alien attack, and Watford residents are invited to come along and play themselves – ideally screaming in terror and helping to save Watford from the invasion.
The Grunting of the Watford Wyrm is a Medieval ‘history’ of Watford, in which our town is under threat from a dangerous worm prompting a knight called Frank to go off on a quest to hunt it down, encountering many characters along the way including mermaids and minstrels. Both shows will be recorded and later released on iTunes and YouTube, with a video being uploaded to the latter as well.
“We’ve been writing radio shows for years,” says Al, 32, who’s originally from Scotland.
Al and Cy, known collectively as The Electric Head, have done a couple of live radio shows at Watford Museum over the past few months.
“They’ve gone down quite well so we’re hopeful that Watford’s residents will turn out en masse to save it from the aliens and worms!”
- Invasion Night will be performed at Watford Market on June 27, and The Grunting of the Watford Wyrm on The Parade on July 4. Details: watfordlive.org
