WHEN the old hangar at Leavesden airfield was turned into film studios, producing blockbusters like Harry Potter and Golden Eye, any remaining vestige of its war-time history disappeared from sight.
So when photographs of the last Halifax bomber to be built there came into the hands of Three Rivers Museum, there was a frisson of excitement among local aviation enthusiasts.
The two photos, presented to the museum in Rickmansworth last Thursday, show the team of de Havilland engineers who worked on the famous Halifax 710 standing proudly in front of it.
Along with the photos was donated a painting of an earlier Halifax aircraft, carefully restored by the Handley Page Association.
