A CAMERA that identifies vehicles involved in crimes is to be installed in Kings Langley.
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera will photograph passing cars and those that have been linked to a crime will sound an alarm at police headquarters.
The cameras are being placed in all main roads heading into and out of Hemel Hempstead, and are expected to be installed by early Summer, in partnership with Hertfordshire Constabulary and Dacorum Borough Council.
Planning permission for the camera, which will be placed on an eight metre high post, was approved at Dacorum's Development Control Committee meeting on Thursday, March 29 and follows a successful trial scheme in the Maylands Industrial Estate.
John Clarke, Head of Public Protection, said: "The scheme we already have in place at Maylands Avenue has more than halved crime in the area and we want to spread the benefits of using these cameras further. We hope that ANPR will help reduce vehicle crime in Dacorum."
