ENGLISH Longhorn cows and rare breed sheep will soon be grazing on Chorleywood Common.
The animals will on show for one day at Chorleywood as part of a rare Breeds Grazing Roadshow.
The aim of the roadshow is to demonstrate a more traditional way of managing the land.
As well as being popular walking spots, commons such as Chorleywood are also some of the best areas for wildlife in Hertfordshire.
Lowland heath and unimproved grassland are rare habitats with specialised wildflowers and insects.
Many feel that grazing would be a more sustainable and natural way of maintaining these habitats.
The roadshows will give people the chance to see some rare breed cows and sheep close up, make a bird box, enjoy wood crafts and do a scavenger hunt.
Experts will be on hand to answer questions about the animals and to explain what returning livestock would mean for the commons.
The free roadshows will run from 11am till 3pm on Saturday, April 14.
The event has been organised by the South Hertfordshire Commons Grazing Group is a partnership between St Albans City and District Council, Chorleywood and Colney Heath Parish Councils and the Countryside Management Service (CMS).
