A man who died after being pulled from a swimming pool at a swingers party in Radlett has been named as Edmund Echukwu.

The 35-year-old father from Edgware in north London attended the "James Bond meets Pussy Galore-themed" sex party at the mansion in Theobald Street on Friday night.

The party, which was one of the standard monthly parties hosted by Radlett Adult Parties, was reported to be just getting started when Mr Echukwu was spotted unconscious, at the bottom of the pool.

Hertfordshire Constabularly and the ambulance service were called at 12.32am on Saturday.

Mr Echukwu, who is of a Nigerian heritage, was taken to Watford General Hospital, where he later died.

Richard Stanley, 66, who runs Radlett Adult Parties with his wife Janet Harrison, said: "We've never had a tragedy like this before. It was horrible to witness and I feel very sorry for the man’s family."

"Guests bring their own drink and this gentleman had apparently severely dented his own bottle of Jack Daniels "My immediate reaction was to cancel the ‘mad march hare and Easter bunny’ party due on Saturday night, but the police said that was not necessary.

"Also we had countless incoming messages of support for the party and the best thing to do when you fall off a horse is to get straight back in the saddle."

Hertfordshire Constabulary is currently investigating the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and a post-mortem examination is due to take place this week.
