FAIRTRADE campaigners in Watford are gearing up for a fortnight of activities to promote the cause.

Fairtrade Fortnight starts on Monday and is a national event to raise awareness about the importance of paying farmers in developing countries a fair price for their goods.

After three years of hard work and lobbying, Watford was only recently granted Fairtrade Town status.

To highlight the range of Fairtrade goods now available in the town, there will be tasting stands at six outlets in the town.

These include: Cooperative Store, St Albans Road, Watford, on Monday, February 26.

Sainsburys, Albert Road South, Watford, on Friday, March 2.

Sainsburys, Dome Roundabout, on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4.

Marks & Spencer, Harlequin shopping centre, on Tuesday, March 6.

Tesco, Watford, on Thursday, March 8.

Asda, Dome roundabout, on Saturday, March 10.

Many churches in Watford are planning to have services which highlight Fairtrade and to hold Fairtrade Stalls on the Sundays during the Fortnight.

Christ Church in St Albans Road (the First Fairtrade Church in UK) has Fair Shares' as the title of their All Age Service and a Fairtrade Stall on Sunday, March 4.

St Matthews, Oxhey, will have a service and Fairtrade Stall on Sunday, March 4.

All Saints Church in Horseshoe Lane is holding a Children's Competition to collect as many Fairtrade items from home as possible and bring them to Church on Sunday, March 11. The adults will hold a Fairtrade coffee tasting.

St Andrews in Church Road, will highlight Fairtrade in their Sunday Service and hold a Fairtrade stall on Sunday, March 11.

St Luke's in Langley Way will focus on Fairtrade in the morning Service and have a Fairtrade stall on Sunday, March 11.
