AN entrepreneur from Rickmansworth was one of 28 young people recognised at the county's youth service awards last week.

Craig Osmond was presented with an award in the Volunteering and Supporting Communities category at County Hall, Hertford, for his efforts reviving the fortunes of a local youth centre.

One day the 17-year-old realised the youth centre in Old Uxbridge Road, West Hyde, needed a makeover, so he set about raising £7,000 to put in a coffee bar and internet cafe complete with brand new computers.

Craig said: "I've been going along to the youth club since I was younger and decided that it could do with an overhaul to bring it into the 21st Century, with new technology to bring in more young people - it is still an ongoing project but so far it has been very successful."

Chloe O'Keefe, 15, from Watford, was also presented with an award for her contribution to her local youth club, Leavesden Green and Leggatts Youth Club.

Chloe helps younger teenagers develop their football and art skills.

Other local winners in the Volunteering and Supporting Communities award were Watford's Sabaa Gauhar, Claudia Johnson, Stefan Williamson and Michaela Kavanagh King.

Stuart East, from Watford, received the personal development award.

Zara Marcus, from Watford, received the new experiences award for a person who has contributed significantly to their personal, social, and educational development.

Haydon Cresswell, of South Oxhey, won the creativity award for his efforts in the music and arts field.
