FEW people would expect to take health advice from Coronation Street's Janice Battersby but thanks to the help of a Watford fitness trainer they should think again.
Richard Callender, 31, of Vicarage Road, has worked with actress Vicky Entwistle on her weight loss DVD, Weight Off Workout.
The DVD was a bestseller like Richard's other success, Jordan Workout.
Richard said: "The job came about because of the success I'd had with Jordan. Initially I was asked to do the choreography but then I was asked to help present the DVD too."
He admits it was a struggle travelling up to Blackpool to train with Vicky but he had a lot of fun during filming in London.
"It was really difficult doing hours of takes and having to present with sweat dripping in my eyes. When we finished filming I couldn't stand for two days. What you don't see on the DVD was that there was a massive buffet afterwards so we stuffed our faces."
Richard's fitness regimes are born out of his varied background even though he was no schoolboy athlete.
He said: "At school I was a bit of a geek with my glasses and afro. Only when I was about 16 and my body started changing did I start training. I was a sprinter until I injured my back when I was 17. I tried to get back into it but when I returned everyone was a bit quicker so I got into martial arts."
He then went to university and became a personal trainer.
However, having worked his way up to a management position in the company he returned to the personal training he loved.
He said: "I'm a people person and I love to motivate people. Watford has a few good places for people who want to keep fit but that isn't always enough. Some people are afraid of starting and I think personal training can help those who don't have enough will power."
