A mother-of-one from Croxley Green has won an Inspirational Award after her young daughter nominated her.
Kiran Singh, who lives in the Byewaters Estate, was presented with the honour at the Inspirational Mother Awards in March.
The 36-year-old was nominated by her nine-year-old daughter, Khushi.
Ms Singh, who works at a private college in Harrow, said her daughter had to describe her mother in 250 words.
Ms Singh, who moved to the area from Norway six years ago, said: "Khushi nominated me and then got an email to say that I had been shortlisted. I then found out afterwards that I was invited to the award ceremony. It was really unexpected.
"It was really amazing because hundreds of thousands of people were nominated and I was shortlisted."
Speaking about why she feels it’s important that women are recognised in such a way, Ms Singh said: "Many single mums are struggling and I want to show what you can achieve as a single mum.
"My family are back in Norway, so it can be hard at times, handling everything on your own, but you need to get the best out of what you have. Khushi just wrote what she felt and it was a message from the heart."
Ms Singh was also announced the first runner-up for the Empowering Women Award in 2012.
Ms Singh said she is very proud of her latest award and that she hopes it will inspire other single mothers to see what can be achieved.
