Motorists can now park for an hour for free in a Croxley Green car park.

The car park, situated next to the Red House pub, in Watford Road, has been made available to all motorists, not just customers of the pub.

The parking facilities will no longer be managed by Three Rivers District Council as the lease of the car park has expired.

Lease owners, Greene King, have recognised that the importance to the community and local businesses that the parking facilities remain available to all motorists.

Drivers are able to park for an hour for free between 8am and 6pm without having to buy food or drink at the pub. There will be 18 free spaces.

Three Rivers cabinet member for the Environment, Councillor Martin Trevett, said: "Free parking is the lifeblood of town and village centres.

"The District Council provides short stay free parking in or close to all high streets in the area and we were absolutely determined to protect this important facility.

"Pubs are a valued part of our village and I am pleased that we have come to this formal agreement with Greene King. It’s a victory for pragmatism and community spirit."

He added: "Croxley is an important economic centre whose profile will grow significantly once the Rail Link is completed. The District and Parish Councils will continue to work with the business community to make sure we have first class facilities for both residents and visitors."

Long term pay and display parking will also be available in the car park during the day.
