A Rickmansworth baker rose to the challenge when her entry won in a category at the National Cupcake Championships last weekend.
Hazel Carmichael won the 'Free From' Cupcake of the Year category on Saturday, November 9, with her Pecan Passion cupcake.
Ms Carmichael, who works in Cinnamon Square, in Church Street, said: "I was over the moon to receive first place. I will cherish this accolade as a real career highlight."
She added: "During my seven years working there I have noticed an increase in requests for ‘free from’ products, gluten in particular.
"I wanted to create a new cupcake that would tantalise everyone’s taste buds, but also be suitable for those who are gluten or lactose intolerant."
This year’s judges included royal wedding cake-maker, Fiona Cairns, and John Whaite, winner of the third series of Great British Bake Off.
Hazel added: "The highlight of the day for me was being presented with my award by Mary Berry."
