“The wand chooses the wizard, Mr Potter. It’s not always clear why.” So Ollivander tells Harry, and it’s just one of many mysteries about the Hogwarts horde’s magic, wooden wands.
This month visitors to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, can delve deep into the world of wand making, spell casting and wizarding duels, as secrets are revealed in Wand Week.
Did you know, for example, that Daniel Radcliffe wore out more than 60 wands during the making of the film series? Or that 17,000 hand-decorated and hand-labelled wand boxes filled the Ollivander’s set? Did you notice that in the first two films the wands look plain but soon gained distinctive shapes and carvings?
Visitors will discover first-hand how fight scenes were developed and the incredible amount of planning that went into each wand movement. Original moulds, concept art and wand designs will be showcased in the attraction and, for the first time, Mr Ollivander’s costume will be on display at the entrance of his famous wand shop.
The Studio Tour’s knowledgeable staff members will be on hand to share behind-the-scenes secrets and to teach the wand moves seen in the films.
Wand Week will take place from Saturday, February 16 to Sunday, February 24. Details: 08450 840900
