MR BERNARD RONALD BENHAM BEN HAS "CROSSED THE BAR" 21.06.1926 - 14.09.2024 Served in the Royal Navy from 1943 - 1946 as a signalman on HMS Redmill (K554) and HMS Hadleigh Castle (K355) on escort convoy duty on the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and on the North Russian Convoys. Torpedoed twice, a member of the Castle-class corvette (Frigate) Association and the Bounty Boys Association. Decorations received, the Atlantic Star, the France and Germany Star and the George Medal. For 44 years and 4 months after WW2, Ben served as a motorman (train driver) for London Transport Queens Park, Bakerloo Line and in his latter years of service in the signal box at Stonebridge Park. Ben was born in Harrow Weald, moved to Hendon and then Garston before settling in Bushey 64 years ago. Ben is lovingly missed by his 1 Son and 2 Daughters, 4 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, 1 Sister, 2 Nieces, 1 Nephew, 2 Great Nieces and 2 Great Nephews. Loved by all he will always be lovingly remembered. A funeral service will be held on Monday 4th November, at St James's Church, Bushey, 11:30am, followed by committal at North Watford Cemetery, 1.30pm. To honour Ben's memory if you wish, please wear an item of Royal Navy blue and white. Family flowers only, donations can be made to the Sea Cadets.
