RAW Derek William Aged 81, of Bushey Hertfordshire passed away on the 16th April 2019 after a long fight against cancer. The beloved husband of the late Dorothy Jean Raw is survived by his 3 sons and 6 grandchildren. Derek was born in Leicestershire and spent his early years in Portsmouth during the Blitz, he later moved to Watford to live with his Aunt Agnes who helped to shape a young man. Derek attended night school and qualified as an electrical engineer and continued his education later in life through the Open University studying French and Maths. Derek saw the value of education and continuous learning. Derek was a keen sportsman who boxed for the army and later played squash which he continued to enjoy into his late 70's. An avid reader and follower of current affairs, politics and world news, he was always happy to sit down and discuss and debate the day's news. He was proud of his family and how they had all grown into "good decent citizens" and would often comment on how proud he was of all his grandchildren and their successes. The funeral service will be held at West Herts Crematorium Garston on Wednesday 8th May at 12.40, followed by a reception at the Noke Hotel, St Albans. All welcome. No flowers please
