Bringing music to unusual venues, Guerrilla Gigs presents the St Albans Residents First Weekend.
Organised by the St Albans Arts Team and taking place in the foyer of The Old Town Hall, these free gigs are designed to stop shoppers in their tracks and raise awareness of the rich vein of creative talent on offer in the city.
On Saturday, January 28, Bill Johnson and Richard Hignett will appear representing The Blue Angel Acoustic Café. Bill is renowned as host of the popular Blue Angel nights at The Horn and as an experienced and eclectic local performer, while Richard is known for his soulful performances at acoustic nights around St Albans and beyond.
Redbourn Folk Club takes up the baton on Sunday, January 29 featuring new band The Handymen. This trio of experienced musicians only got together last summer and play an intense blend of acoustic world music and traditional Irish instrumentals, as well as more experimental sounds. Also performing is Garry Smith, a slide guitarist who plays a resonator guitar but prefers to avoid the obvious blues repertoire, concentrating instead on his own songs and instrumentals and the work of writers such as Tom Waits, Joe Ely and Steve Earle.
Both gigs will run from 11am to 1pm at The Old Town Hall, St Peter's Street, St Albans and admission is free.
