Big bands deserve a suitably large auditorium, so the Colosseum welcomes The Nick Ross Orchestra for a concert celebrating the expansive sound of Glenn Miller and the era of swing.
Featuring unforgettable numbers such as Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, A String of Pearls, Begin the Beguine and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square the concert evokes memories of wartime and the Blitz but most of all the spirit to endure.
The music will span almost all the emotions of those difficult times: comradeship, doubt, fear, loss and, most significantly, the hope of love.
There have been times in history when composers and musicians seemed to be born to the occasion – none more so than the inimitable Glenn Miller who felt instinctively for the mood of the time and searched for a sound to capture it in the heart’s and minds of the people.
With a full line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a rhythm section and top singers, The Nick Ross Orchestra will faithfully recreate the wonderful sounds of such big bands as those led by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Syd Lawrence.
The concert is at Watford Colosseum, Rickmansworth Road, Watford on Saturday, January 14 at 7.30pm. Details: 0845 075 3993
