Tikka Nation tops Tripadvisor's 'best fast food restaurant' in Watford list - but does the it live up to its online reputation?
The Indian eatery, which has a 5/5 rating and is based in atria Watford, boasts an extensive menu including loaded fries, chicken tikka, paneer tikka, chaats, vada pao, masala chai and more.
Check out below what we made of it when we visited earlier this week.
Review
I was greeted with a smile by waitress Priyanka and as promised by many of the previous reviews, the service was "welcoming and warm". I knew I was in good hands as she recommended her favourite dishes for me to try.
For a total of £14.90 I had high expectations and took my seat at one of the six tables beside the fast food kitchen.
A meal featuring a spicy dhaba chicken curry, masala fries and a limca was brought to my table in under six minutes.
The presentation was flawless on the curry, and the taste matched it, fluffy white rice, and juicy dhaba chicken with a rich curry sauce made for a fulfilling plate of food.
However, the same cannot be said for the fries, as they were tightly packed into a takeaway box. Their flavour did make up for this - somehow maintaining their crunch despite the soggy Masala marinade.
Accompanying the meal was a spicy mayo that proved very complimentary for both dishes and helped give them an extra kick.
A hearty meal was washed down perfectly with the limca which provided a cool taste of lemon and lime to soothe my taste buds.
Conclusion
On the lower floor of a mall is not where you would expect the best fast food restaurant in a town. A modest chain with only seven locations was holding its own against the greats of the industry.
My experience lived up to the billing: efficient service, a fantastic meal at an okay price gave me a very enjoyable lunch. In terms of Indian dining, it was classier than a sloppy takeaway curry and did not leave you feeling as worse for wear the following day.
Its only downside is, like the rest of the shopping centre, it must close at 6pm, leaving little time for dinner service.
