A Watford art historian has published a collection of articles.
Ian Welland, a Watford Writers member, has released a selection of his own writings on art and art history in a new paperback, titled On Art.
The book is a celebration of Mr Welland's 40-year career as an art historian.
It includes a list of featured artworks which can be found online, a bibliography and an index for those keen to delve deeper into art history.
The publication also has an "Extras" section providing a guide for viewing art, along with anecdotes and reminiscences of artists and art historians Mr Welland has met over the years.
Mr Welland said: "In 1983, I submitted an article to the editor of Burlington Magazine – very ambitious for an 18-year-old without any academic credentials.
"The article, needless to say never published, discussed J.M.W. Turner’s 1844 painting entitled Rain, Steam and Speed – The Great Western Railway which can be seen in The National Gallery.
"The experience back in 1983, despite my (long-faded) disappointment of rejection, was useful for it set me a challenge – one I am pleased to say, has led me down a highly enjoyable road as an art historian.
"Celebrating my 40th anniversary since that first submitted article, I have put together a selection of 36 articles, some being published for the first time, in one accessible volume."
Proceeds from the first 30 copies will be donated to Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.
