Nine pubs near Watford have been featured as the Good Beer Guide for 2025 was published today.

The UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide is commonly used by real ale fans to make sure any boozer they visit is up to high standards.

Watford has just one entry this year but there are also quite a few options in nearby areas.

Two Trees Micro

(Image: Two Trees Micro Pub) The only pub listed under the Watford header, Two Trees Micro, in Vicarage Road, is also the only micropub in town - priding itself on selling beers not available elsewhere.

It specialises in real ale, real cider and craft beer, as well as providing a small selection of spirits and soft drinks for customers.

Wishful Drinking

Wishful Drinking is a converted bottle shop-cum-bar divided into a store at the front and a bar area at the rear.

It can be found in Rickmansworth High Street.

Villiers Arms

The Good Beer Guide describes the Villiers Arms as a “traditional, family-run village pub, popular with the local community”.

It highlights the entertainment, including quizzes and live music, on offer at the Villiers Road, Oxhey, venue.

Saracen’s Head

The Saracen’s Head, in Kings Langley High Street offers a “good choice of beers and wines” but is also noted for its gin and whisky offering. It dates from 1619.

Sportsman

The Sportsman, in Scots Hill, Croxley Green, provides “a traditional atmosphere in a modern context” the guide says.

It stood out by offering six “ever-changing” guest ales, mostly coming from smaller breweries.

Swan

The single room Victorian local is around 150-years old.

Bell

The Bell, in Bovingdon High Street, is an 18th-century pub that plays host to lots of events. The pub’s food offering also got a mention in the guide.

Oddfellows Arms

The Oddfellows Arms, in London Road, Apsley, is described as a “lively, friendly free house with open mic and live music most days”.

It has a “good selection of well-kept beers, non-real ales, ciders, wines, and spirits”, the guide adds.

Land Of Liberty, Peace & Plenty

As well as boasting a fantastic name, The Land of Liberty, Peace & Plenty in Heronsgate, on the edge of Chorleywood, is apparently popular with walkers, cyclists, locals, and real ale enthusiasts.

Up to six microbrewery beers are usually offered.
