Owners of a family café in North Watford say they are “really happy” after scooping top food hygiene marks having previously been told "major improvement" was needed.

Inspectors have raised Jenny’s Café, which has been in St Albans Road for 25 years, to a 5/5 rating following an inspection on August 23, after it scored 1/5 earlier this year.

The previous hygiene inspection on April 9 found mouse droppings in multiple places around the café, including under the grill, kitchen preparation area and behind the chest freezers at the storage room.

“I was really happy because I know it should be a 5/5 and we are 100 per cent confident we will maintain the score.”

At the time, the cleanliness and condition of facilities, and management of food safety were both rated ‘major improvement necessary’, while their hygienic food handling was judged to be ‘good’.
