Whether it’s picturesque shots of grand houses and churches or beautiful lake and river scenes, we are blessed to have wonderful views all around us in Hertfordshire to enjoy.

Today is World Photography Day and to help mark this we asked readers to share their images of the best views in Hertfordshire.

The images on this page showcase some of the best architecture our county has to offer, such as the splendour of Ashridge House and St Albans Abbey, as well as the beauty of Cassiobury Park in winter and the lavender fields in Hitchin.

“A photograph has the ability to capture a place; an experience; an idea; a moment in time,” the World Photography Day website www.worldphotographyday.com says. “For this reason, it's said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Photographs can convey a feeling faster than, and sometimes even more effectively than words can. A photograph can make the viewer see the world the way the photographer sees it.

“Photographs even transcend the passing of time - a photo from a hundred years ago can still be as appreciated now, as it was then. A photo taken tomorrow, can still be just as appreciated by others in a hundred years' time.”
