Watford looks set to get a new Subway after plans were submitted for a vacant town centre unit.
The sandwich chain wants to open in The Parade after documents were submitted to Watford Borough Council on Friday, August 16, seeking permission to put its iconic green and yellow sign at the site.
It would occupy the former McDonald's next to the Exchange Road flyover, which has been boarded up since it closed in 2019.
It comes after Watford Borough Council approved plans on August 8 to split up the unit into a kiosk on one side and a unit of around three times its size with a separate entrance.
Subway had been pegged as the replacement as a planning statement submitted with the previous application said the larger unit was "likely to be operated as a sandwich store", although the chain did not reply to a request for comment.

If approved, it would join Subway’s three other locations around the town in King Street, Asda at The Dome roundabout, and the Esso garage on North Orbital Road.
When the McDonald's closed in 2019, the fast food chain did not reveal the reason but said the decision was “not taken lightly”.
Subway has been contacted for confirmation of an opening date.
