Watford’s Big Beach has been forced to move location... after being scuppered by a “large” water leak.
Watford Borough Council announced today (August 14) that the annual summer attraction will be moved from its usual spot in The Parade due to “emergency works” in the area.
It means the Big Beach will be located next to the Watford Central Library when it opens from Friday, August 16 until August 30.
The borough council has not yet confirmed the reason for emergency works, although Hertfordshire County Council has notified that it will be carrying out urgent works in The Parade to “provide assistance to locate a large water leak” from today.

The repairs are expected to take place opposite 112-116 Faircross House and the Kaziu Barber Shop, according to the file on the Causeway one.network website.
Watford Mayor Peter Taylor said: “Our new location next to Watford Central Library will offer an equally fantastic beach experience. The library area provides a perfect setting for families to enjoy the sun, build sandcastles, and take part in our engaging beach activities.
“I encourage everyone to come down, relax, and make the most of this unique summer event right in the heart of our town.”
The council insisted the attraction will still offer buckets and spades, deckchairs, picnic tables and sun umbrellas free of charge.
The beach hut will also reopen at the new location from 10am to 4pm daily providing information and assistance.
It is not clear when WBC was first notified of the works, or where the leak is believed to be located.
Watford Borough Council has been contacted for more information.
Note: this story has been updated because an earlier version stated the park had already opened when it is not due to open until Friday.
