Nine playgrounds - including two near Watford - are being refurbished thanks to more than £1 million in investment.
The Croft Meadow and Tower Hill playgrounds in Chipperfield are currently closed while they are being updated by Dacorum Borough Council.
A £610,000 contribution by developers through the community infrastructure levy and £500,000 in council funds will pay for the project.
The playgrounds also being revamped include the Flaunden Play Area in Flaunden, Durrants Hill in Apsley, Galley Hill in Hemel Hempstead, and Miswell Lane in Tring.
Works on Tring Skate Park, Apsley Lock and Woodhall Farm have already been completed.

The upgraded facilities at both playgrounds reopened on July 26 with new climbing frames, swings, slides and interactive play elements.
Portfolio holder for neighbourhood operations councillor Robin Bromham, said: “I am delighted to see the new play areas at Apsley Lock and Woodhall Farm completed.
"These spaces are important for our children’s wellbeing and development, providing them with safe and exciting places to play and explore.”
Flaunden, Croft Meadow and Tower Hill are due to be completed by the end of August, while the Durrants Hill, Miswell Lane and Galley Hill play areas are expected to be finished later in the year.
