A retailer is eyeing a 3,347-square-foot unit as a potential new store in plans now waiting on council approval.
Majestic Wines has targeted a vacant warehouse at the former Travis Perkins site, opposite the Premier Inn in Church Wharf, for a Rickmansworth shop opening it has apparently been hoping to find the right spot for since 2004.
Despite being headquartered in Watford, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer’s nearest Hertfordshire location is in St Albans.

The planning application, added to the online portal yesterday (July 31), for a change of use from “builders merchant” to “retail” is currently pending consideration by Three Rivers District Council.
The area is not generally set-up for shops but the business argues that its large stores are a little different as it is a “bulky goods” retailer, expecting just 25 to 30 transactions per day with the average amount spent on a single transaction being over £110.
Majestic Wines plans to employ five full time members of staff at the store, with the roles being skilled jobs following a training programme designed to give salespeople “unparalleled wine knowledge”.
The anticipated opening hours are 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sundays.
