Staff and customers at a restaurant in Bushey were left amazed when a chauffer arrived with Hollywood royalty to enjoy a meal.
Richard Gere is said to have told St James Restaurant owner Alfonso Lacava that he “loved” his dinner at the highly regarded modern gastro-dining restaurant last night (July 30).
The restauranteur says he has had other celebrities visit over St James’s 27-year history, including the England football team in 2007, but “real gentleman” Mr Gere was top of the list.

“Out of the blue a chauffeur came outside and Richard Gere came to have a meal,” Mr Lacava said.
“Everybody was shocked, we didn’t expect it. It was incredible to have him in our restaurant.”
A table of three had apparently been booked and two American diners, apparently Gere’s agents, arrived first before the whole restaurant recognised the Pretty Woman star walking in afterwards.
The actor asked Mr Lacava for his recommendation when ordering and took up the advice, ordering a meat-free tasting menu. Afterwards, the 74-year-old apparently said it was a “wonderful meal”.
Mr Lacava added: “To have a person like that in a local restaurant is just wonderful, we’re not like The Grove where you have famous people all the time.
“To choose us is absolutely fantastic.”
St James Restaurant, based in Bushey High Street, celebrated 27 years in business earlier this month.
