Flooding has shut down one of Watford’s newest restaurants just over a week after it opened.
Popeyes started serving Louisiana-style burgers, wings, and tenders from its atria Watford location on Friday, July 19, but pictures from Saturday night (July 27) show water raining down from the unit’s ceiling with buckets out on table to try and contain it.
In a statement this morning (July 29), a spokesperson for the shopping centre said: “We can confirm that the Popeyes unit here at atria is temporarily closed, due to flooding linked to an issue with their internal sprinkler system.

“The Popeyes team is working hard to resolve the issue and we will update once it is reopen.
“We thank everyone for their patience.”
The American chicken chain took over the former Grounded Kitchen location, which faces out onto High Street next to Burger King and TGI Fridays.
It has been opening new branches nationwide this year, as it plans to double the size of its UK estate in 2024.
Update: the restaurant has since reopened.
