The Cassiobury Park Underpass in Watford has become home to a new multimedia installation entitled: The Overpass Suite.

The project, coordinated by three creatives from Watford, weaves together painting, classical music, and graphic design.

Six intricate panels, residing in the underpass at the top of the park, showcase imagery from artist Fran Kershaw's eye-catching "100 Views of Watford" series.

Each piece tells its story of the overpass and is accompanied by a QR code.

This technology offers visitors an auditory experience, a selection of musical preludes, created by 27-year-old musician, George Moorhouse, who is also from Watford.

George's compositions feed off the rich atmosphere of the paintings, each piece of music building a dialogue within the art installation.

He said: "Growing up I always felt deeply inspired by the work of Claude Debussy, he often composed pieces directly linked to images, paintings, and postcards.

"I was fascinated with the idea of converting the visual landscape into a musical landscape."

To create these musical interludes, George borrowed the artworks for nine months, allowing them to shape his compositions over time, forging a celebration of place and urban moods.

Fran, a painter of Watford for 20 years, is known for her strong graphic composition with a focus on capturing nearby architectural scenery.

Following her exhibition at the Palace Theatre, she collaborated with George on this endeavour.

She said: "I think we are lucky in Watford to have so many people be inspired by our town.

"Finding a way to share music with the public in the way we so easily do with visual art has been a wonderful challenge, one brilliantly responded to by Chloe Lawrence who produced the graphics allowing us to do just that.

"We just hope that people enjoy the music and the paintings in the space that inspired them."

The installation will continue to invite visitors until at least June 2026.
