The owner of a Watford takeaway is "confident" it will keep its improved food hygiene rating of four-out-of-five after scoring one-out-of-five twice in two years.
Max Peri Peri, at 11 Market Street, was told it needed "major improvement" when health inspectors visited last November, but has since been raised after re-inspection.
The cleanliness of its facilities and management of food safety are now both "good", while the handling of food is considered "generally satisfactory".
Takeaway owner Khursheed Mohammed said he was “confident” they would maintain the improved rating given on April 30, adding: “I am happy, but I would look forward to getting five stars.”
“We retrained the staff, the kitchen and cellar have been updated, and the records have been completed,” the 47-year-old from Harrow added.

The full hygiene report from November 2023 revealed several failings including that staff did not regularly wash their hands and failed to disinfect the work surfaces used to wash and coat the chicken.
Mr Mohammed claimed that multiple hygiene issues were due to a new employee at the time who is no longer working at the takeaway.
He added that the basement kitchen and cellar have also been repaired after inspectors judged it unsuitable for a food room and said the door was in a “poor state of repair”.
