Chorleywood Bookshop is set to celebrate Independent Bookshop Week (IBW) with visits from Shirley Ballas, Alison Weir, and Hilary Bradt.

The IBW, which started in 2006 from the Booksellers Association, aims to salute the role of independent bookshops in the UK.

For a week, book lovers can support their favourite independent bookshops in different ways such as visiting the bookshop, buying from the store’s website or even participating in organised events.

Monday, June 17 will see world-renowned ballroom dancer, Strictly Come Dancing judge and author Shirley Ballas at the Chorleywood Memorial Hall discussing her novel, Murder on the Dance Floor, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

On Tuesday, the Chorleywood Library will host Hilary Bradt, co-founder of Bradt Travel Guides, from 7pm to 8pm.

Mrs Bradt will talk about her memoir Taking the Risk: My Adventures in Travel and Publishing.

Wednesday will be reserved for historian and best-selling author Alison Weir.

She will also be in Chorleywood Library from 7pm to 8pm to talk about her historical novel Mary I: Queen of Sorrows.

The following day will have renowned crime fiction writer Mark Billingham selling and signing copies of his novel The Last Dance at the Chorleywood Bookshop.

The week’s events will culminate on Saturday with the legendary cardiac surgeon and scientist Sir Magdi Yacoub signing copies of his memoir A Surgeon and a Maverick at the bookshop.

The bookstore will display the shortlisted titles for the Indie Book Awards in various categories.

The winners will be announced via Scala Radio on June 20 as part of the national celebrations for the IBW.
