Work at a demolished Watford petrol station site has restarted after a long period of inactivity.
The garage by The Dome roundabout closed on December 10, 2022, as it was confirmed that a full site rebuild would take place within two years.
The structure was knocked down pretty quickly but once this was done a lack of visible progress for around a year sparked confusion among passers-by.

Around the beginning of May, the oil and gas company told the Watford Observer that the site had to be closed for the “extended period of time” to perform “necessary remediation works” and demolish all existing structures.
It promised rebuilding work would begin by the end of that month and now photos taken on May 31 show it has got underway.
A spokesperson said Shell expects the project to be complete by the end of November.
“We will build a bigger shop, Karcher car wash, and EV charge points,” they added. “We will also be restoring the same number of fuelling positions for both cars and trucks as before.”
When it closed, Waitrose, which operated a Little Waitrose convenience store there, said that it would be in contact with Shell once works are near completion to understand its plans as it still had “a number of years” on its lease.
