Watford has seen a flurry of activity in the café sector as six openings have already happened or been announced this year.
Whether it is because of more flexible working or changing social patterns, the town is clearly full of demand for more cafes.
This list rounds-up three new locations that have opened in just the first five months of this year and three that have already been announced to come later on.
Recent openings:
Cedar Cafe
The Cedar Cafe at the Cassiobury Park hub welcomed its first customers to the former Daisy’s in the Park space on March 1.
The new eatery is run by EMA Catering, which also operates other park cafes and festival food stands.
It offers a range of hot and cold food made fresh on site, from English breakfasts to full meals like spaghetti Bolognese.
Daily Grind
The Daily Grind has been open from 7am until 4pm Monday to Friday, and 9am until 3pm at weekends since February.
The Queens Road café is particularly targeting Watford town centre workers getting a cup in the workday, working from the café, having meetings there, or just relaxing.
Coffee&
The latest entry, Coffee& opened on Monday (May 13) in the former Bean Here location just off the Hunton Bridge roundabout in Hempstead Road.
It is serving coffee and cakes between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday as well as 9am to 4.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Soon to come:
Bla Bla Café
Bla Bla Café will be opening in Clarendon Road in either June or July.
The company, which has its only existing café in Weybridge, prides itself on friendly service and sustainability, offering its own blend of coffee and only using plant-based or 100 per cent recyclable packaging.
Black Sheep Coffee
Speciality coffee chain Black Sheep Coffee has been opening new locations up all over the UK recently and hoarding is currently up on an atria Watford unit.
The branding says it is "coming soon" but strangely Watford is not listed among the many “coming soon” locations on the Black Sheep Coffee website.
Starbucks
The former Chiquito’s unit at Woodside Leisure Park, off the A405, is set to be divided into two separate units.
The larger part will host a new Nando’s location for the town, while the smaller section will be occupied by Starbucks.
The café chain says it aims to open at the end of June.
