A Watford restaurant was told ‘urgent’ improvement is needed as it received a 0/5 food hygiene rating.

For the second time in a fortnight, one of the town’s eateries got the worst possible score following a Watford Borough Council inspection.

Inspectors visited Kamu Street Food, in St Albans Road, on March 25 and found every area substandard.

Update: Following a reinspection the food hygiene rating for Kamu Street Food in Watford is now 3/5 - "generally satisfactory"

Hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety were all labelled ‘major improvement necessary’, providing an overall finding of ‘urgent improvement necessary’.

The Sri Lankan takeaway says it tried to submit an appeal over the rating but there appears to have been a mix-up and the council did not receive it.

It is set to discuss this further with the council soon and hopes an appeal will improve the rating.

In the meantime, the owner says Kamu Street Food has already made the changes that were highlighted by the report.

Prior to the most recent rating, it held a 2/5 rating following an inspection on March 27, 2023.

Last month, HK Roast Ltd, which operates both Mr Sushi and Panda Oriental at 97 Vicarage Road, was also handed the ‘urgent improvement necessary’ grade following an inspection by Watford Borough Council on March 11.
