A man has warned that “Watford could become the next Paris” after he filmed bedbugs crawling on his hotel bed.
The business consultant, who is also a qualified hotel manager, had booked into the Premier Inn Watford Croxley Green, in Ascot Road, for four nights from Thursday, March 21.
He did not think much of it when he woke up on Friday morning to find he had been bitten once, but after receiving several more over the next two days, he decided to investigate.
“On Sunday morning, I woke up and I could feel the itching already because the room was dark and I know bedbugs like the dark,” the 55-year-old explained.
“I turned the light on and looked at the kind of places where they would be, and when you see the video, it will give you the creeps.”

He cut his hotel stay short and has been left “absolutely disgusted”.
“I didn't even step into my own house. I got undressed at my front door, put them into a plastic bag and boil washed the clothes. I even found one in my laptop.
“I could hardly sleep last night. Any air that brushed across my skin, I was waking up and scratching and thinking about these things crawling all over me while I'm sleeping."

After reporting the issue to the hotel, it refunded the night he didn’t use and directed him to make a complaint online, which he said could take between seven and 25 days for a response.
But with the Easter holidays approaching, the consultant and frequent traveller has warned that the problem could spread, referring to the bedbugs panic in the French capital last autumn.
“There are families probably coming in and staying there with kids," he said. "We could potentially have them spread it to their own homes."
“If leadership does not step in, Watford could become Paris."
A Premier Inn spokesperson confirmed environmental health inspectors had visited today (March 26) and found bedbugs in the room.
They said: "We have rigorous processes in place to both react to and prevent issues on the rare occasion they do arise.
"As soon as our team were made aware of this complaint by the guest, the room was put on lockdown and independent experts were called to investigate and have arranged for the necessary specialist treatment."
No further cases have been reported and the surrounding rooms have been confirmed to be clear, the spokesperson added.
"Rest assured that we take complaints of this nature very seriously and we are corresponding directly with the guest, when we hope to resolve this to his complete satisfaction," they said.
