An escape on the edge of Watford has made a Telegraph list of Britain’s 30 greatest spring getaways.
The Grove is a regular winner in awards and rankings for the nation’s best hotels for those looking to make the most of the season.
It repeated its successes in a new list curated by The Telegraph, which sees the destination take the highest possible score for ‘blooming grounds’ and ‘al fresco living’.

It was also given a 4/5 for ‘seasonal produce’ and 3/5 for ‘walks from doorstep’.
According to the newspaper, it “scoured the country, seeking out 30 places to stay that, in their different ways, encapsulate the season”.
The Grove's mini review said: “Set in 300 acres of countryside, The Grove – an 18th-century manor house and newer west wing comes into its own in spring.
“Hyacinths, tulips, and irises bring colour to the formal gardens in front of the Glasshouse restaurant and bluebells carpet the woodland.”
It recommends hiring bicycles or mini four-wheeled drives to explore with, visiting the pool, playing tennis and croquet, and enjoying barbecues.
The Feathered Nest, in Oxfordshire, was nearest destination to Watford besides The Grove in a list dominated by retreats further from the capital.
