A Watford café has been told "major improvement" is needed in a 1/5 food hygiene report.
Watford Borough Council inspected Charlie’s Café in Vicarage Road, near the stadium, on February 5.
It found that two areas, hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were fine but said that “major improvement” is needed in terms of its "management of food safety".
- Four Watford restaurants rated 5/5 for food hygiene

The area refers to: “System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.”
Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building was found ‘good’ and hygienic food handling was found ‘generally satisfactory’.
This led to the overall "major improvement necessary" finding and 1/5 score.
Charlie's Café declined to comment on the report when approached by the Watford Observer.
Of Watford’s 210 restaurants, cafes, and canteens with ratings, 149 have 5/5 scores and none have a 0/5.
