Plans to demolish a pub’s outbuilding and build three flats on the site have been submitted.
Three Rivers District Council is set to consider the proposal for The Western, in Rickmansworth High Street, after it was added to the planning portal on Wednesday (February 21).
If approved, it would see a garage knocked down to provide space for a block of three one-bedroom apartments in the pub’s car park.
- Dry cleaners fined £15,000 for employing illegal worker
- Major roundabout to shut for two weeks for works
- 'Major improvement needed' as restaurant given 1/5 hygiene rating
The Western, formerly known as Druids, would stay open and the publican has written a letter in support of the plan saying “I do not envisage that this development will detract from the operations of the pub”.
There would still be space for five cars to park, but they are for the The Western's patrons as the development would be “car-free”. A new storage area is proposed for the pub.
One apartment is proposed for each floor of a three-storey building, with each containing a kitchen/living room, bedroom, and bathroom. There would be stairs at the back and balconies on the first and second floor.
The new building would be accessed through the existing car park entrance.
The planning application is currently “pending consideration”.
