A Watford restaurant has been slapped with a 1/5 food hygiene rating.
St Albans Road’s Mekan Turkish Grill had its latest rating published on Wednesday (February 21) after it was inspected by the Watford Borough Council on January 16.
It was found that “major improvement” was necessary overall as it received the second lowest possible grade.

The standards were judged ‘improvement necessary’ for hygienic food handling, ‘generally satisfactory’ for cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and ‘major improvement necessary’ for management of food safety.
The restaurant had apparently been behind with its paperwork and there had been issues with the kitchen including water leaks when inspectors arrived.
The owner shared a picture of how the kitchen looks now, after its issues were apparently sorted.
He added that the business is now up to date with its paperwork and looking forward to a reinspection it is expecting next week.
