Watford has missed out, but another local town has made the cut as a lifestyle publication revealed its “best places” list.
Last week, Muddy Stilettos revealed which Hertfordshire locations have been included in its 260 Best Places to Live 2024 guide for those looking to move in England.
From the county, Rickmansworth, Welwyn Garden City, Bishop’s Stortford, Royston, Hertford, Letchworth, Buntingford, Tring, Hitchin, and St Albans all featured.

“Hertfordshire isn't just a characterless commuter belt,” the description read. “Charming villages, rolling fields and towns packed with cool restaurants and independents are very much the order of the day here.
“From the lively vibes of historical St Albans and happening Hitchin to properly rural village life, there's something for every savvy commuter in this county.”

Muddy Stilettos is described as “the urban guide to the countryside” which might disadvantage the more urban Watford against the competition.
Earlier this year, the UK Vitality Index ranked Watford third among the UK’s 100 largest urban areas outside London in its own “best places to live” list.
Nearby Rickmansworth was praised for delivering the best of both worlds. Muddy Stilettos said: “A riverside town with plenty to please the whole family that’s also on the tube – could Rickmansworth be too good to be true?”
