Atria Watford: 34-year-old arrested and charged after event

The event took place on Wednesday (October 18), when officers were supporting a national campaign to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour that impacts businesses in the community.

The suspect from Watford was spotted, who officers believe may be responsible for a previous bicycle theft in the town centre.

He was swiftly arrested and was later charged with two counts of theft of a pedal cycle, on September 23 and October 4.

The 34-year-old has since been remanded into custody.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary described the event as "a good day all round".

They continued: "Even when we’re engaging with the community, we’re always keeping our eyes peeled for anything of interest.

"It was a good opportunity for businesses and residents to meet the town centre policing team, so they can recognise their local PCs and PCSOs who patrol the area daily.

"We also spoke to shoppers about how they can prevent themselves from becoming victims of crimes such as purse dipping when out and about.

"It was a positive event and a perfect example of the ongoing partnership work which is helping to improve feelings of safety in the town centre."
