Following rumours that Wilko stores could close in a matter of weeks it seems customers have begun to bulk buy from the Watford shop.
It was announced on August 10 that Wilko had fallen into administration after it failed to secure a rescue deal.
The chain, which runs more than 400 stores across the UK including one in the High Street, told its 12,000 staff that it has hired administrators from PwC to oversee the process.
- Staff redundancies and major high street store closure 'likely'
- Shoppers react to news that Wilko could close
- Majority of Wilko stores to close 'within weeks' - see all the stores at risk
On Wednesday, August 23, PwC announced that a buyer had yet to be found for Wilko and that staff redundancies and store closures are “likely”.
At around lunchtime on Friday, August 25, when the Watford Observer visited, some of the shop’s shelves were completely empty.
It was not surprising considering the discount that is on offer.
Pet and paint products have 10% off the original price, while kitchen, home, housewares, and DIY items have 20% off the original price.
It goes up to 30% off for stationery and garden products and 50% off on Christmas decorations.
Toiletries, laundry and cleaning products, seem to have been sold first as the majority of these items were nowhere to be seen in the store, just signs above where they were once homed.
Many pet and garden products are still available as well as kitchen and homeware items.
As is advertised on the shop’s front window, “everything must go”.
